Findings

v     All classes and areas managed to reduce their waste during the four week project

v     The kitchen produces a huge amount of waste in comparison to that of the classrooms

v     The office produced a large quantity of waste during week one because they were clearing out catalogues

Conclusions

The following changes were suggested by the children as a result of the waste collection project:

v     That the school should seriously consider a scheme to recycle boxes and cartons which are the result of deliveries to the office and kitchen

v     That the existing scheme of composting organic waste should continue

v     That the paper shredding facility for used paper be continued

v     That the recycling of aluminium cans should be continued

v     That the school should seriously consider a scheme to recycle steel cans

v     That the existing facility for collection and recycling of textiles should continue

v     That the existing scheme for collecting stamps for charity should continue

v     That the school should continue to collect and recycle ink cartridges

v     That we should have more opportunities to recycle toys and books
