How to handle sparklers.

Hold the sparkler at arms length.

Never touch the sparkling end.

Place the sparkler in a bucket of water when
you are finished with it

How to handle fireworks.

|
- Never go back to a lit firework.
- Get to a safe distance after you light a firework.
Only responsible adults should light fireworks
- Don't let young children near lit or unlit fireworks
- Pets
get very frightened on fireworks night, so keep all your pets in the house
and close all the curtains to make things calmer. Remember it's not just
your own fireworks that cause distress, it can be your next door neighbors
and its a good idea for people with pets not to have them in there back
garden.

| How to handle lit matches

- Try to angle matches up unless you have to angle it down because if
the match is angled down the flame will rise up the match more quickly.
- Never let the flame burn too far up the match.

| What to do if there's a fire.

1. Shout loudly to let everyone in the house know
there is a fire.
2. Get out of the house, closing doors behind you.
2. If you can, phone 999 and ask for the fire brigade. Give them your phone
number and explain what has happened. Do not put the phone down until they tell
you to. If you cannot phone then ask a neighbour to
phone..
3. Wait until you are told what to do.

How
to prevent fires

play with matches

Keep matches AWAY from children

KEEP
an eye on cooking food.

Make sure that ALL matches, cigarettes or candles are
PROPERLY put out.

Test your smoke alarm EVERY week. If it needs
new batteries replace the old ones as soon as possible. If the smoke
alarm stops working, get it replaced as soon as possible.

to do if your clothes catch fire.

1. STOP!
Running around will make the fire worse.
2. DROP! Get onto the ground.
3.
ROLL! With your arms above your head, this will put out the fire.

What
to do if you're cooking fatty foods and the fat catches fire.
|
1. Get a
safe distance away from the fire.
2. Put a damp cloth on top of the fire.
3.
If the cloth doesn't work then follow the fire procedure. |
