Introduction to our Site The team
Why we created the website We have been working as a team on the school website for 3 years. We are now in year 6 and wanted to create a new part of the school website. Our school had a visit from Helen at KIDSMART all about safety on the internet. We decided that creating a site for other people our age to learn about safety would be a good idea. We set out with the target to help children to think about how to be safe. We had to also to make the website stand out. The main objective was to make a cool fun website that would tell children to be safe. We designed this website for 7-12 year olds. How we designed the website At first we didn't know how to plan, so we went back to the basics. We did a first plan on paper this was a spider diagram. We then all chose which part of the website we would like to work on. When there was any disagreement we had a vote. Once we did this we got the plan on a computer. We designed this website using Microsoft front page 2000. We used java script from http://www.Dynamicdrive.com and http://www.hypergurl.com (mouseover sound effect) and www.javascriptkit.com. We used Microsoft clipart online for most of the clipart. We used Paint Shop Pro to edit pictures. Rebecca used Paint Shop Pro to design the background for our website. We decided to use the same background throughout the site and comic sans font because it is clear and easy to read. Each member of the team added the java script on their part of the web site. We used a program called Hot Potatoe to make the quizzes and Thomas used 'Inspiration' to make the site map. Who did what Home page, intro to the site created by Jacob Safety on the internet created by Callum Safety on the road created by William Safety at home created by Thomas and Jacob Safety in the water created by James Safety at school and background created by Rebecca Safety at Hagbourne school created by Christina and Grace Site map created by Thomas Problems We Had The main problem was not all writing the same thing, like about fireworks. We had to work out what we each had to write about. The other problem was links not working. This was usually because we had used capital letters and it didn't like that sometimes. Some of the Java script we tried didn't work so we tried different ones until we found ones we could get to work. Aims for the future This website is an ongoing project. We still have more plans for the future, such as adding more facts, advice and quizzes. And maybe some pictures/video clips showing dangerous situations (of course these will not be real situations). We would also like to look at what accidents occur at our school, or on troute to school to see if we can reduce accidents in future. Jacob May 2005 |
