How To Behave In a Car

  • You should be properly seat belted with belt-positioning booster seats, or the shoulder/lap belts correct for their size.
  • Seat belts must be worn correctly at all times by all children and or passengers  who have outgrown booster seats and fit shoulder/lap belts properly to provide the best protection in a crash or accident.
  • Side air bags improve safety for adults in side impact crashes, but children who are not properly restrained and are seated near a side air bag may be at risk from the power the airbag releases to case serious injury. Check your vehicle owner’s manual to see what it says about children and side air bags.
  • You may have heard recently about new air bags. These make traveling safer for adults, but it is not yet known as of yet how they will affect the safety of children in cars. Even though these new air bags may be safer, the back seat is still the safest place for children younger than 13 years to ride.
